Project Commercial Lead

We are currently seeking a Project Commercial Lead to join our high-performing project team, based in the Christchurch region. Our ideal candidate will have a solid background in leading commercial teams on large-scale construction projects, with strong financial acumen and leadership capability. As Project Commercial Lead you will be responsible for:
- Leading and supporting a team of Quantity Surveyors, ensuring alignment with Leighs’ vision, values, strategy, and performance expectations.
- Managing the financial performance of the project, including cash flow, construction changes, and profit margins.
- Overseeing procurement strategies, subcontractor negotiations, and payment processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Producing comprehensive commercial reports and updates for project reviews and senior stakeholders.
- Building and maintaining professional relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Providing coaching and mentoring to junior team members in line with Leighs’ leadership values and competency framework.
Skills and experience required:
- Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying or a relevant commercial discipline.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in a large-scale construction or multi-project environment.
- Proven experience delivering complex and/or large commercial construction projects.
- Strong leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to manage and develop teams.
- Advanced problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Commercial construction experience essential.
- Ability to foster strong working relationships and a collaborative team culture.
